چکیده
Soil carbon (C), nitrogen (N), and phosphorus (P) are three important elements. The study of stoichiometric relationships soil C, N, P in tropical forests on Hainan Island, China could improve our understanding nutrient cycling provide valuable information for forest management. samples were collected at five different depths from 0 to 100 cm sites among four types total concentrations measured. C N C:P N:P ratios declined the surface layer deeper layers C:N ratio had relatively small variations depths, due that mostly controlled by biological processes such as photosynthesis N2-fixation, while was more influenced bedrock. Large spatial found their ratios. significantly longitude vegetation cover, concentration latitude. This produced a comprehensive data set stoichiometry, variation patterns controls forests. generated here help ecosystem models better element productivity, plant-environment relationships.

Effectiveness of Nature Reserve System for Conserving Tropical Forests: A Statistical Evaluation of Hainan Island, China
Evaluating the effectiveness of existing nature reserve systems for the conservation of tropical forests is an urgent task to save the remaining biodiversity. Here, we tested the effectiveness of the reserve system on Hainan Island by conducting a three-way comparison of changes in forest area in locations within the reserves, adjacent to the reserves, and far outside of the reserves. We used a...
متن کاملCladocera of Hainan Island, China.
The cladoceran fauna of Hainan Island (China) was investigated. Samples were collected in January 2013 and in April 2014 from over hundred water bodies, including large and small reservoirs, ponds and pools, rivers, streams, and paddy fields. There are no large natural lakes on the island. We found 53 species of Cladocera: 9 species of Sididae; 5 Daphniidae; 2 Moinidae; 2 Macrothricidae; 2 Ilyo...
متن کاملSpatial and Temporal Patterns of Carbon Storage in Forest Ecosystems on Hainan Island, Southern China
Spatial and temporal patterns of carbon (C) storage in forest ecosystems significantly affect the terrestrial C budget, but such patterns are unclear in the forests in Hainan Province, the largest tropical island in China. Here, we estimated the spatial and temporal patterns of C storage from 1993-2008 in Hainan's forest ecosystems by combining our measured data with four consecutive national f...

GUO HC, WANG WB, LUO XH & WU XP. 2015. Characteristics of rhizosphere and bulk soil microbial communities in rubber plantations in Hainan Island, China. Phospholipid fatty acid analysis was used to investigate spatial variations in microbial communities of rhizosphere and bulk soil in rubber plantations in Hainan Island. Rhizosphere and bulk soil were collected from immature and mature rubber t...
متن کاملIncreasing tree cover while losing diverse natural forests in tropical Hainan, China
To protect biodiversity and improve environmental conditions, China has invested billions of dollars in reforestation and payments for ecosystem service programs. Here, we examine the Sloping Land Conversion Program, the largest such program in theworld and found that after 13 years of implementation at our study site, it has had negative impacts on natural tropical forests. GIS and remote sens...
